What impact has Convergence had on Bridgend?

One of the most frequent questions we hear people ask is ‘what has European funding ever done for us?’ In this section of the website we hope to illustrate the impact that Convergence has had on south east Wales and Bridgend County in particular.

The south east Wales Specialist European Team (SET) is a partnership of local authorities that provides specialist support and advice to many projects in the region.

This film gives an overview of how Convergence funding is being invested in south east Wales.

The Convergence Programme 2007 – 2013 has driven a total investment of £3.5 billion into West Wales and the Valleys.

The Convergence programme consists of two separate but complementary funds:

The European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) which consists of around £1 billion of funding to help progress the region’s transformation into a sustainable and competitive economy by investing in the knowledge economy and helping new and existing businesses to grow. .

The European Social Fund (ESF) consists of over £690 million of funding aiming to tackle economic inactivity, increase skills and employment.
